I came across this yesterday, and it's definitely one to file for future reference. When he was a baby, the kid would eat just about anything I offered him but then toddlerhood and the word 'no' happened and... well, let's just say that baked beans and fish fingers are featuring far more often than I would have imagined.
We're not at the point of a totally restricted diet, but the article prompt me to realise that I do limit confrontation around mealtimes by generally sticking to things that I already know he will like. Even more so because we rarely sit down to eat together (*hangs head in shame*). What can I say, Brad happily skips lunch, and neither of us feel like having our evening meal at 5.30pm.
I think we'll make more of an effort though, because actually, an early evening meal does have it's benefits, in leaving the whole rest of the evening free for diddling around on the internet.
I just added Dinner Tonight to my newsreader and yesterday tried an even variation of this. Seriously, dinner was ready in 10 minutes. OK 15. Cubed lamb steak and whole, crushed cloves of garlic cooked fast on a griddle pan (do we own kebab skewers? We do not.) with a couple of rough chopped courgettes thrown in near the end and a whole lemon squeezed over. Served on couscous (a teaspoon of Marigold in at the beginning and a teaspoon of butter at the end), with a large helping of steamed green veg: cabbage, broccoli, green beans. A little feta crumbled over top, for the tang.
Double yums. And, two of my five a day!
